Takumi Hibachi Sushi & Bar opens in Bass Pro area

If you are looking for a different and fun dining experience in Denham Springs, Takumi Hibachi Sushi & Bar opened in June in Denham Springs near Bass Pro. There are several large flat grills where food is prepared with a flair right in front of you. Other sections of the restaurant are designated for those wanting sushi and other items from the menu. A kids menu is also available. All told, the restaurant seats about 150.

Takumi Hibachi Sushi & Bar owner Nick Xiao is a resident of Livingston Parish and operates two other restaurants in Walker: Foo Chow and Hot Wok. Customers at his other restaurants had been asking for a hibachi option for a while, and he is excited to finally have the restaurant open after having his plans for it delayed by the 2016 flood.
Xiao’s business partners are John Lund and Xing Yang. Yang’s family has decades of experience in hibachi restaurants and recruited experienced chefs for them. Intensive training is required of such chefs because of the sharp knives used and flaming foods prepared so close to customers.
Hibachi chefs take orders from up to 20 diners seated around back-to-back pairs of the 12 hibachi grills, and servings are prepared all at one time on the large flat grills. Hibachi entrée choices include various combinations of chicken, lobster, salmon, shrimp, scallops, and filet mignon, rice and assorted vegetables and more– about 20 combos in all.
A wide selection of sushi includes appetizers and a la carte entrée. A few of the appetizers are mango salmon, snow crab, and a sampler plate. The extensive entrée menu has octopus, tuna, red snapper, shrimp and more. There are about 30 choices of rolls, including Hawaiian, Ninja (spicy), Red Dragon (tempura shrimp), Rock n- Roll and many more.


Takumi Hibachi Sushi & Bar, 151 Bass Pro Blvd, Denham Springs, 225-998-1234. Hours are 11 am – 2:30 pm, and 4:30 – 10:30 pm. Last seating for the hibachi show table is 30 minutes before closing, and last seating for other dine-in tables is 15 minutes before closing.
About eight different platters are offered, including the veggie maki, the Unagi Don (sliced eel over rice and veggie), the Love Boat (sashimi, nigari, single roll and rainbow roll), the Tekka Don (sliced tuna over rice & veggie) plus others.
Take-out orders are welcome – but you’ll miss the fun experienceat the hibachi show tables!
