Think back to your last trip- business or pleasure- did everyWe all have choices. Lots of choices. All day long. Tea or coffee, milk or orange juice, wheat or white, red car or white car, tennis shoes or high heels. What you eat, where you live, what you drive, who you hang out with, to exercise or not to exercise. Choices – all sorts of choices – all day long! Some choices really don’t matter a lot: your car will drive just as well whether it’s red, white, or blue. Whether or not you choose to exercise is another matter, but ultimately, it’s up to you.
Recently, two newer members here at the gym stopped me to say how glad they are that they started exercising. They feel much better, aren’t as stiff . . . heck, they even look happier.
An amazing thing happens when you start moving: it feels better when you move more, and the more you move, the more you can move. Notice I said “move” and not exercise; often the first place to start is simply to get out of your chair and get into a class. Move. We were made to move.
Hearing stories like those from my newer folks reminds me what a kick I get out of helping people just move and how cool it is to hear someone say how much better they feel in such a short time. I’ve heard that over and over again, and I never get tired of it.
When you start moving, you feel better, you look stronger, you look better, sometimes you won’t have to take as much medicine, or you may be able to get off others completely. One lady came to class with a black eye and bruised face; said she fell in her driveway, “But I got UP,” she said proudly. Do you know how huge that is, to be able to get up? Do you know how huge it is to reduce medications? But it’s your choice.
It’s your choice to move or not move, feel better, or feel a little worse every week. Move without stiffness, or get stiffer by the day. Make changes that will enhance and improve your health, or do nothing. It’s your choice.
Till next time . . . I’m choosing to move and improve. What about you?
